According to the American Chiropractic Association, approximaetly 80% of the population suffers from spinal pain at some point of life. Due to the fact that so many people suffer from back pain, it is important for you to try to keep your spine as healthy as possible. By following simple posture, lifting and healthy lifestyle guidelines you can keep your back in good shape.
When standing, keep one foot slightly in front of the other, with knees slightly bent. This helps keep the pressure off your low back. Keep your head level. Align your earlobes with your shoulders.
When lifting, avoid twisting at all times. Twisting is one of the most dangerous movements for the spine while lifting. If an item is heavy, pushing it is easier on your back than pulling it. Whenever possible, use your legs, not your back or upper body. If you must lift an item that is heavy, ask someone to help you.
When sitting, keep your knees slightly lower than your hips, with your head and back straight. Avoid sloughinh (rolling your shoulders forward). Always try to maintain a natural curve in your lower back. For more information on healthy tip, visit www.acatoday.org or call our office for a complimentary consultation.
